Project Team: Cornell FSAE Racing

Design, Build, and Win!

My name is Shota, and I am a sophomore mechanical engineering student at Cornell Engineering student ShotaCornell. I am here today to discuss one of the biggest reasons why I decided to attend this school. More specifically, I am writing to talk about Cornell FSAE Racing Team! Some people may refer to us as “Cornell Racing” or “FSAE” as well. Our team competes in a collegiate level design competition hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) each year. Furthermore, we design, build, test, and race an electric formula-style race car all from scratch with the various resources that we have access to. Some of the systems on the car that we design and manufacture include the: suspension, carbon fiber monocoque, aerodynamic wings, and 420V high voltage battery that powers the car. Our team motto is: Design, Build, and Win!

A photo of Cornell Engineering student KennyHello!  My name is Kenny and I am a senior Mechanical Engineering major from Palo Alto, CA.  I am currently a team lead on Cornell Baja Racing, a project team that designs and builds off-road buggies to race against other collegiate teams.  I am also part of a research lab in the Space Systems Design Studio on a team building a small sat that will be traveling to lunar orbit on the inaugural flight of NASA’s SLS.  During my junior year I also participated in Cornell’s engineering co-op program, spending eight consecutive months working on satellite hardware at SpaceX. My favorite place on campus is the Experiential Learning Lab which is in the basement of Upson Hall.  Its home to a majority of the project team workspaces and the Emerson Machine Shop where my Baja team machines most of the parts on our car.  The ELL also home to Autolab, an automotive garage workspace where we do all our welding and assembly.

Cornell Engineering student HarleenHi! My name is Harleen and I am majoring in mechanical engineering. I am originally from outside of Philadelphia, PA. On campus, I work as an undergraduate researcher in the Dr. Andarawis-Puri Lab where I investigate the use of exercise in repairing damaged tendons. Since my sophomore year, I have served as the High School Outreach coordinator for the Society of Women Engineers at Cornell. As the coordinator, I lead a team to plan various events to introduce engineering to high school girls through hands-on activities and guest speakers.
