Why did you choose Cornell and/or Cornell Engineering?
I chose Cornell Engineering for the high female-to-male engineering student ratio, which is unlike other undergraduate engineering colleges I looked at, and for the project and research opportunities available to undergraduate students. In many of my STEM classes in high school, I was one of only a handful of female students in the class. Being in a community with a more even gender distribution, I have been able to be a part of more collaborative group work with more equitable contributions. Additionally, I was especially excited about the project team experience at Cornell. From the competitive environment that challenges students, to the collaborative projects providing students time to enhance their soft skills, Cornell Engineering stood out to me as a special learning environment.
What is your favorite thing about Cornell and/or Cornell Engineering?
My favorite thing about Cornell Engineering is its diversity. In both ethnicity and gender, I have found Cornell Engineering to be a diverse environment where I have been able to collaborate with some really amazing students of all backgrounds. I also really enjoy all of the project team opportunities at Cornell. Being able to apply what I learn in classes to engineering scenarios is something really unique and special.
How did you get involved outside the classroom?
Outside of the classroom, I am involved in two club sports and am the diversity outreach coordinator for the Society of Women Engineers. The two club sports that I am a part of have been a great way to meet new people and form a strong group of friends whom I am close with.
