Meet Kian

Cornell Engineering student KianMajor: civil engineering

Why did you choose Cornell University and/or Cornell Engineering?
I applied to Cornell University early decision mainly because of the the fact that I could really explore what I wanted here because I would be able to take courses outside of my major in my other interests like Architecture and Food Science.

What is your favorite thing about Cornell Engineering?
I really love my project team Cornell Seismic Design. I came to Cornell not even knowing project teams existed, but this team has allowed me to explore my curiosity in design while learning from and becoming close to an extremely talented group of students.

How do you get involved outside the classroom?
Besides working on Cornell Seismic Design which takes up most of my outside of class time. I am currently doing research on earthquake mechanics with the McLaskey research group. I am exploring techniques like photo-elasticity to view stresses in laboratory fault experiments in a new way. I also really enjoy baking all sorts of desserts during my free time.
