Meet Regina
Major: environmental engineering
Hometown: Monterrey, Mexico
Why did you choose Cornell and/or Cornell Engineering?
As a transfer applicant, I was looking for a school that allowed more freedom when it can to my academic path. I wanted to major in engineering, but I also wanted to take classes in politics, economics and history. Cornell was the perfect place for me to combine my interests in feminism, business and social impact with environmental engineering and sustainability. As well, I was looking for a place where I could thrive as an international student and meet people from different backgrounds. Having access to a diverse community has enhanced my education experience and transformed my perspectives of global issues.
What is your favorite thing about Cornell and/or Cornell Engineering?
My favorite thing about Cornell Engineering is the intersectionality practiced across all disciplines. All majors are welcomed throughout all project teams and classes. Being able to explore other avenues has allowed me to broaden my interests and technical and communication skills that will come in handy as a professional.
How did you get involved outside the classroom?
I found an amazing community in sustainability groups across campus. I had the pleasure of serving as president of Epsilon Eta, a sustainability professional fraternity. I cultivated friendships with students that are as passionate about sustainability as I am while also amplifying my networking in the industry, learning about careers I hadn’t heard of before and working on my professional skills. I also got involved in Cornell Sustainability Consultants as a project manager and lead a team of very creative and hardworking students. This hands-on experience taught me about consulting and developing innovative solutions for real life clients.
