Meet Jazmin
Major: chemical engineering
Hometown: Westford, MA
Why did you choose Cornell and/or Cornell Engineering?
Cornell Engineering is unique in that it is incredibly diverse. I was drawn to the 50/50 gender balance and knew that I would find support in many ways. Additionally, Cornell professors are world-renowned, and there are so many opportunities for hands-on work and networking. I wanted to go somewhere where I could study chemical engineering but also take classes like Greek Mythology, Intro to Acting, and the Ice Cream Class, and that place is Cornell!
What is your favorite thing about Cornell and/or Cornell Engineering?
Cornell Engineering provides so much support for their students in terms of networking opportunities, career support, tutoring, and more! I have found that Cornell Engineering is an incredibly collaborative environment, and my classmates have become some of my closest friends.
How did you get involved outside the classroom?
I’ve served as President and Recruitment Officer for Alpha Omega Epsilon, a sorority for women in engineering and STE, and I’m the President of Salsa Pa’lante, Cornell’s all-inclusive salsa dance troupe. I am also a Meinig Family Cornell National Scholar, and work as an intern at the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
